Buckyball

 Buckyball is a ball shaped molecule made up of 60 Carbon Atoms, and it also present in more than 60 carbon atoms forms. The full name of the Buckyball is Buckministerfullerence, or simply C60. Buckyball resembles like a soccer ball but you have to wait a long time before kicking this ball and if you do, you will have a compound fracture of your foot and ankle, because of its hardness and not willing to give-in even a micromilimeter.

Now the fun begins:

Recall the terms: Fullerene, Allotropes ( isotrope of the same element), Truncated Icosahedron, hexagon, and Polygon. Then remember Geodosic Dome, Vertex, and face. Then, the Duality, simultaneous present as wave and particle, is a fundamental aspect of Quantum mechanics. Then, Nebula and Newborn Stars strip out their outer layers. And finally, a Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1985. All these terms are used to describe the Buckyball.

                                 A Geodesic dome

Mr. Richard Buckminster Fullerence was an American Architect of enormous reputation as a structural engineer. The Buckyball is named after him.

Robert Curd, Richard Smalley of Rice University, and Harold Kroto of Sussex University, UK created the Buckuball in their laboratory by vaporizing graphite and letting the gas cool in an atmosphere of Helium gas. They detected a C60 allotrope, which is now called Buckyball. For their works, this trio was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1985.

Structurally, Buckyball is a polygon with 60 vertices and 32 faces, 12 of which are polygonal and the rest 20 are hexagonal. Each C atom is bound to the next C atom on its 3 sides by one double bond and two single bonds, making a most stable material structure.

Bucky balls are present in the black shoots of the furnaces and fireplaces, in Nebulae, and stripped out of its outer layer of a newly formed star.

Buckyballs are inert, superconductors, and insulators. It is also a dual existent-Wave + Particle, and soluble in benzene and turns red with Toluene.

If injected in humans as contrast material in X-ray and MRI, the C60 stays in the body for only an hour.

Speculation is that Buckyballs will be the champion among the microprocessors and transistors. Drug manufacturers are betting on making magic pills that can be directed to a specific organ by applying a specially formulated Buckyball coating to tablets, and because Buckyballs are inert, they will have no adverse reaction to the body at all.
