 Black

When sunlight or white light passes through a prism, it displays a rainbow color spectrum, but the black color is absent. Black is not a primary color. By mixing yellow, red, and blue colors, black is created. When eyes perceive no light is called black. Everything about black has a negative connotation. But back is as much an entity as other colors.

If you ask a Buddhist monk what Nirvana is. If he is a follower of Nagarjuna, a branch of Madhyamika, his answer will be - “Shunyata”. Shunya means zero and not empty. This definition has a positive value. Other monks will differ and explain that Nirvana means the absence of all pain and suffering. Again, a negative value.

Can we assign a positive value to a Black hole. All scientists will say that it is the heaviest heavenly body, having a mass several thousand times greater than the sun. The Black hole is black to us because light can not escape from the Back hole due to its massive gravity. If light can not escape, it is automatically taken for granted, nothing else can escape from a Black hole. However, a subatomic particle can escape a Black hole if it is a ”particle-antiparticle pair”. One particle, while falling, the other escapes.

This phenomenon of escaping subatomic particles is captured by the James Webb Space Telescope. The interstellar subatomic particles passing just outside its gravitational field heat up to a degree that lights up the space, which is visible billions of miles away, and this is captured by the space telescope.

Black is perhaps one of the dominant colors of our world. Black is used as paint, in prints, and naturally occurring pitch is used on the surface of roadways, the color of coal and crude oil; used on all electronic goods, the garment color popularized by Hollywood celebrities, to the extent that it also becomes the favorite color of common folks.

 It is a whole different story when black is the color of the skin of a fellow human. Then we hear a cry, "I can not breathe". Remember George Floyd !!
